This is a sample, written before the programme is in the water, so you can see what a release note will look like. Every real one will carry its counts, dates and observers.
The note itself would read like this: the pens were opened at 05:40, twenty minutes before sunrise, on a falling tide with the sea at slight. The count was taken twice — once by the pen keepers on transfer, once by the independent observer at the gate — and the two figures are both given below.
Release counts are verified by an independent observer present at the pen gate. Both the transfer count and the gate count are published; a release is only logged when the two agree within tolerance.
The note would close with who came down from the village to watch, because that is part of the record too. Releases are public events — witnessing them is one of the standing invitations on this site.
